Security forces detain more than 700 terrorists in Kashmir

Srinagar: Security forces have arrested more than 700 people in connection with the killing of seven civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in six days. Many of them are believed to be affiliated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami. Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs and Muslims were among those killed in the attacks in various parts of Kashmir.

A senior police official said they were taken into custody to disrupt the network of attacks in the Kashmir Valley. He attributed the attacks to an increase in terrorist activity since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. Police allege that The Resistance Front, a subsidiary of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was behind the attacks.

Last week, two teachers were shot dead by terrorists at a government school in Srinagar. School principal Satinder Kaur and teacher Deepak Chand were killed. The attack took place at a government school in the Safa area. The terrorists entered the school and opened fire on the teachers. Both were rushed to hospital but could not be rescued.

Earlier, a Kashmiri Pandit, a medical shop owner, a street vendor and a cab driver were shot dead by terrorists. Mohammad Shafi, a taxi driver in Bandipora, and Virender Paswan, a Bihar native, a street food distributor in Srinagar, were killed.
