Semiconductor factories such as TSMC are operating normally despite the lockdown in Shanghai

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Guna-hyun = Taiwan’s Free Time reported on the 29th that TSMC’s Shanghai plant is operating normally while Shanghai, China, is in lockdown to prevent the spread of Corona 19.

According to the Free Times, TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor foundry, said “the city lockdown will not affect production.” TSMC is operating an 8-inch wafer factory, its flagship product, in Songjiang Industrial Park, southwest of Shanghai.

SMIC, China’s largest foundry company based in Shanghai, also said that “the manufacturing plant is operating normally.”

When asked about the impact of the Shanghai lockdown on corporate production activities on the 28th, SMIC answered, “Currently, our production and operations are operating normally, and we will do our best to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while closely monitoring the situation.”

SMIC has three 8-inch wafer factories and three 12-inch wafer factories in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Shenzhen.

China’s second-largest foundry company, Huahong Semiconductor, said that it is minimizing external contact by requiring essential personnel to stay at the company’s dormitory on the 27th, one day before the lockdown, in order to operate the line normally.

Shanghai, the economic capital of China, began a sequential lockdown by dividing the city into east and west for eight days starting on the 28th. It is the most extensive measure since the lockdown of Wuhan, which was designated as the source of the corona virus in early 2020.

Pudong, which is east of the Huangpu River, which runs through Shanghai, entered a lockdown for four days first, and Pudong, to the west, was blocked for four days thereafter.
