Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University announced on the 28th that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) immediately corrected the Dokdo issue after receiving a protest from Ukraine after marking the Crimean Peninsula as Russian territory on the Tokyo Olympic website.
On this day, Professor Seo sent such a protest e-mail to IOC Chairman Thomas Bach, all IOC members around the world, and former IOC honorary members including Jacques Rogge.
Professor Seo pointed out in the protest e-mail, “The IOC continues to take the blame for marking Dokdo as Japanese territory on the Tokyo Olympic website’s torch relay map, which is a double standard.”
At that time, when South Korea strongly demanded correction, the IOC repeated only Japan’s response, “As a result of inquiring with the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, the mark of Dokdo is a pure topographical expression.”
Professor Seo said, “This is evidence that Japan is paying attention. The IOC is an international organization that should be fair. You should never do anything biased. He demanded that the Japanese side immediately delete the labeling of Dokdo.”
Meanwhile, the IOC said, “It was a mistake of the service provider and corrected it with an apology as soon as it became aware of the contents,” related to the Tokyo Olympic website, which previously described Crimea as Russian territory.
