Seoul, September 3, 2023 – Seo Yeon-jeong made an impressive breakthrough in her career by securing her first victory at the KLPGA tournament. After participating in 260 competitions, Seo Yeon-jeong emerged as the player with the longest wait for her first win in the history of the tournament.

Debuting in 2014, Seo Yeon-jeong reached new heights by clinching the top spot in her career after 260 tournaments. The KLPGA Tour’s 12th KG Ladies Open, held at Suning Point Country Club in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, witnessed her remarkable performance in the third round. Scoring 3 strokes with 5 birdies and 1 double bogey, Seo Yeon-jeong finished with a total of 14 under par 202 strokes.

During the final round, Seo Yeon-jeong showed great resilience as she maintained par on the first hole of the extension. This tied her with Roh Seung-hee, who had also dreamt of winning her first championship after 260 tournaments. Eventually, Seo Yeon-jeong prevailed, claiming the victory and taking home the winning prize of 144 million won.

With this win in her 260th tournament, Seo Yeon-jeong now holds the record for the most tournaments played before achieving her first victory on the KLPGA tour. The previous record was held by Ahn Song-i, who had won in her 237th tournament. Seo Yeon-jeong, who finished as the runner-up in 2014, has come close to victory five times before, including a second-place finish in the E1 Charity Open earlier this year.

Seo Yeon-jeong’s first championship victory was a touching moment as she stood alongside her proud parents. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “In this, the 10th year of my tour, I had doubted if I would ever win a championship. It’s truly an incredible feeling to achieve this milestone in just 10 years. I’m still in disbelief. As I competed for the title, instead of shedding tears, I remained composed, understanding the emotions of players who couldn’t secure a win. However, there were tears welling up in my eyes.”

In the same tournament, Yumin Hwang finished in 3rd place with a score of 12 under par, while Minji Park, Jinhee Lim, Yerim Choi, Gabin Choi, and Jiwoo Koh tied for 4th place with 11 under par. Kim Su-ji, Lee So-mi, and Lee Ga-young shared 9th place at 10 under par. Ahn Seon-joo, Kim Jae-hee, and Park Bo-gyeom tied for 25th place with 6 under par.
