SAN FRANCISCO ∙ US activist Carol Lee (71), who coined the term ‘sex work’ and fought for the rights of sex workers, has died.
Born in New York City. When she was gang-raped while a sex worker in San Francisco, she started the movement for legal solutions to sex work problems. She is famous as a writer and video artist. The term ‘sex work industry’ was coined for a panel discussion at a feminist conference in 1978.
