Sheryl Sandberg, 52, the chief operating officer (COO) who co-starred with Mark Zuckerberg in the development of Facebook as a San Francisco startup, is stepping down. Sandberg was second in the list of Facebook’s owners, Meta. Sandberg joined Facebook in 2008. The company recently changed its name to Meta Platforms.

Sandberg’s resignation comes on the heels of Meta’s transformation of Facebook into a billion-dollar advertising business. Meta will continue on the board as director. Javier Oliven, 44, who oversees Meta’s four major apps – Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, will be the new CEO, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Twitter.
