Shin Yu-bin withdrew due to wrist injury… The first world championship challenge ends early

Abstaining from mixed clothes and women’s clothes one after another… Stress fracture recurred in the match against Suwaiyam on the first day

Shin Yu-bin (17, Korean Air)’s first world championship challenge ended in vain due to a ‘recurrence of injury’.

According to the table tennis team, Shin Yu-bin and Cho Dae-sung (Samsung Life Insurance) withdrew from the second round of mixed doubles (round of 32) on the third day of the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships Finals scheduled to be held in Houston, Texas, USA on the 25th (local time).

Next, Shin Yu-bin and Jeon Ji-hee (Posco Energy) also withdrew from the women’s doubles second round (the round of 32).

This is because Shin Yu-bin suffered a stress fracture in her right wrist in the first round of the women’s singles event held on the first day of the tournament, and was unable to play.

Shin Yubin suffered a wrist fatigue fracture while marching through this year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Asian Championships one after another.

Shin Yu-bin, who had endured the pain and digested the schedule, eventually did not attend the All-Star Table Tennis Tournament held earlier this month as an event, and concentrated on recovering the injured area.

I stopped training to hold the racket for a while, and only did physical training without using my wrist.

The national team leaders and his father discouraged him from participating in the world championships. However, he could not break Shin Yu-bin’s determination to grow further by participating in the world championship for the first time in his life.

Chu Kyo-seong, coach of the women’s national team, told Yonhap News on the phone, “I heard that (Shin) Yubin can participate in the competition at the hospital right before the competition, but the injury could worsen if she puts more than a certain level of force on her right wrist.”

However, Shin Yu-bin, who stood in front of the world championship table, the most brilliant stage along with the Olympics, did her best.

The first match on the first day of the tournament, the first round of mixed doubles (round 64), was fine.

Shin Yu-bin and Cho Dae-seong easily defeated Nikil Kumar-Army Wang (USA) by 3-0.

The first round of women’s singles (round of 128) was a problem.

Shin Yu-bin, who met a tough opponent named Suwai Yam (Hong Kong), a bronze medalist in the team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, put all his energy into it.

The joy of the 3-0 victory and pain in the right wrist came together.

In the end, on the second day of the tournament, in the second round of women’s singles (round 64), Shin Yubin lost to Sarah Denut (Luxembourg) 3-4-3.

He made fans worried with his jagged performance, such as suddenly losing the flow while driving his opponent, and the reason was ultimately the pain caused by a wrist injury.

Coach Chu said, “Yubin played almost crying in the match against Denut.”

In the end, Shin Yu-bin finished her first world championship with a scorecard that was eliminated in the second round of singles and withdrew from the mixed doubles and women’s doubles in the second round.

Shin Yu-bin has to focus on recovery until the national team selection, which starts on the 17th of next month. If he does not participate in the preliminary round, he will not be able to participate in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The fact that Shin Yu-bin gave up on the tournament due to an injury is a big bad news for the national team.

This is because the Shin Yu-bin-Jeon Ji-hee group was predicted to have the highest chance of winning a medal across the men’s and women’s national teams.

Coach Chu said, “I will do my best with the remaining players until the end.”
