The biopic on late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa received good reviews but failed to collect much at the box office. Now, the film’s distribution company, Zee Studios, has come forward against the producers, Vibri Motion Pictures. The demand is to repay Rs.6 crore.
The Times of India reports that Zee Studios gave an advance of Rs 6 crore, which the producers have not returned. For the last two years, I have tried to contact them by e-mails and telephone, but nothing has happened. Also Zee Studios is ready to go to court.
The film hit the theaters on September 10, 2021. Thalaivi was streamed on Netflix within two weeks. Following this, the film’s multiplexes were boycotted. According to a report by Bollywood Hankama, the big budget film Thalaivi earned only Rs 1.46 crore in India. The film collected around Rs 4 crore from theaters worldwide.
