Young Indian player Suryakumar Yadav is the first among the Twenty20 international run chasers in 2022. Nicknamed ‘Sky’, the 32-year-old has scored 732 runs this year. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran are next behind with 619 runs. With this, the player owns the record of being the Indian player who has scored the most runs in a year in Twenty20. Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 689 runs in 2018, currently holds the record.

Suryakumar’s streak is with a strike rate of 180.29 and an average of 40.66. The batsman, who came out at number four against South Africa at the Kariyawattam Green Field Stadium on Wednesday, scored an unbeaten 50 off 33 balls to lead India to victory.

Suryakumar now owns the record of most sixes in Twenty20 in a year. In 2021, Pakistan player Mohammad Rizwan’s record of hitting 42 sixes became a legend. So far Surya has hit 45 sixes. With three more months left this year, the number of sixes will also increase. Rizwan hit 42 overs in 26 innings and Suryakumar needed only 21 matches to break the record. Suryakumar Yadav is currently second in the ICC Twenty20 rankings.
