Some joys to look forward to; Joy Shefiq; Review

A film that calls the family audience back to the theater – in one word, that’s Shefiq’s joy. The film is a realistic family entertainer.

Expatriate Shefik prepares to go home for a wedding. Shefiq is a good hearted and helpful person. One who finds joy in small things. The first half Shafik shares his life before coming to the Gulf with his friend. Flashbacks show Shefiq’s attempts to fix a health problem (which society views with false derision). Shefiq buys a gift from Dubai to give to the doctor who finally cures him. The theme of the film is that she turns into ‘Junior Mandrake’ and becomes a headache for Shefiq and those associated with him and try to solve it. The film, which goes on a feelgood track in the first half, switches gears from the interval to a thriller track, after the film ‘Bheemante Naya’, the road problem, the fight between the neighbors and the consequences also subject to Shefiq.

The film is directed by debutant Anoop Pandalam. Anoop also appears as an actor in the film. Unni Mukundan comes as the cook. Playwright Rajan, Divya Pillai, Manoj K. Jayan, Bala, Krishna Prasad, Rahul Madhav, Anish Ravi, Shaheen Siddique, Mithun Ramesh and Sminu Sijo are the other lead actors. It is worth noting that the film has room for all the actors to perform while focusing on Shefiq’s life.

After Mepadiyaan, Unni Mukundan’s next memorable performance will be in Shefiq. Unni’s acting excellence is where the audience can experience Shefiq’s little joys and pains. The film marks performer Unni as a singer as well.

Another notable performance is that of Bala. Some of the viral dialogues relating to Y Bala’s personal life are approved by him in the film. After a while Manoj K. Jayan also gets an important role. Unni’s father also gets a cameo role in the film. The chemistry and acting moments between Krishnaprasad and Smino, who play Shefiq’s parents, are also the points of the film. The heroines are Drishman Rajan and Divya Pillai. Both have enjoyed their roles. Another new actress also gets a nod in the film. Watch the movie directly because it contains spoilers.

The output of the coordination between the technical areas of the film also reaches the audience in a good way. A very simple script, catchy presentation, Shaan Rahman’s music and Eldo Isaac’s cinematography raise the level of the film. The film ends with a climactic twist that upsets the audience’s preconceived notions. This also adds to the overall enjoyment of the film.

In short, the film conveys the message that ‘everyone’s dreams will blossom’ if there is goodness in the heart and mind to stay. So family audiences can feel free to book tickets to Shefiq’s pleasure.
