Sony CFO commented “Sufficient chips secured for PS5 sales target of 22 million units” –Engadget Japanese version

PS5

There is a shortage of semiconductors that are affecting various industries these days, but the impact is also being reported to new game consoles. Meanwhile, Sony’s CFO Hiroki Totoki said, “We have enough chips to reach the sales target for the PlayStation 5 (PS5).”

The sales target here is to “exceed the actual sales of 14.8 million units in the year following the introduction of PS4”, and a cumulative total of 22 million units will be shipped by the end of 2021 (7.8 million units will be shipped by the end of March 2020). ) I promised to produce more than that.

This statement was made at Sony’s 2021 Q1 financial results briefing. At 10 o’clock, CFO explained that he was taking “various measures” while admitting that “the shortage of semiconductors is affecting various fields.”

He added, “For PS5, we have set a sales target for this year, and we have secured the necessary number of chips for that purpose. We are not worried about the supply of semiconductors.”

In July of this year, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that the cumulative worldwide sales of PS5 exceeded 10 million units. Although this is growing at a faster pace than the record of its predecessor PS4, Mr. 10 o’clock told analysts in May that “supply will not be able to keep up with demand until 2022 (due to lack of semiconductors).” There was also a report that he said it.

The shortage of semiconductors has cast a shadow over the future of PS5 for a while, but this comment seems to have dispelled some concerns for the time being.

If PS5 is supplied smoothly as Mr. 10 o’clock said, more units than ever sold should be distributed in the future, and it may be available in stores as well.
