Japanese rock band Southern All Stars will be unveiling the music video for their latest track, “Relay~Mori no Uta” on September 20 at midnight. This release signifies the final installment of their “Southern 2023 Trilogy,” a three-month song distribution campaign that previously featured “Bon Giri Koika” and “Utae Nippon no Sora.”
A Poignant Song about Jingu Gaien Redevelopment
“Relay~Mori no Uta” delves into the theme of Jingu Gaien’s redevelopment and will be exclusively premiered on their official YouTube channel. Southern All Stars’ own Keisuke Kuwata disclosed on his radio program that he drew inspiration from the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, a staunch opponent of the aforementioned redevelopment during his lifetime.
Expressing his deep connection to the area, Kuwata revealed, “Jingu Gaien has served as Victor Studio’s musical haven for 45 years, thanks to Southern All Stars. This place holds immense sentimental value for me, resembling my very own hometown.”
Prompted by various reports following Sakamoto’s passing, the gifted musician embarked on an enlightening personal study of the matter. He concluded, “Initially, I presumed those reports to be the root cause, but after conducting thorough research, I came to realize the significant loss entwined within those words.”

Affirming his personal connection to the issue, Kuwata expressed, “When crafting this song, my thoughts revolved around my cherished hometown, located in close proximity to Victor Studio, the birthplace of our musical journey.”
