Special Investigation Conducted on Audit and Inspection Board

The Special Investigation Headquarters, led by Chief Lee Dae-hwan, from the high-ranking Public Officials (Airborne) Crime Investigation Department of the Audit and Inspection Board, executed a search and seizure operation at the Audit and Inspection Board office located in Jongno-gu. The investigation is in relation to the alleged discrepancies in the target audit conducted by the Audit and Inspection Board.

The case was initially reported by Jeon Hyun-hee, chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. In December of last year, Chairman Jeon lodged a complaint against Jae-hae Choi, Director of the Audit and Inspection Board, Byung-ho Yoo, Secretary General of the Board, and a senior official of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The allegations included misuse of authority, obstruction of public affairs through fraudulent means, and violations of the Anti-Corruption Act and Prevention of Conflict of Interest Act. The informant, who raised these concerns, is believed to have had ties to the former chairman of the Audit and Inspection Board.

During a special audit conducted on the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in September last year, it is alleged that the Audit and Inspection Board had included approximately 10 items, including the former chairman’s claims of diligence, in their audit target.

Chairman Jeon, when questioned about the reason behind these charges, stated, “There are suspicions that the informant illegally procured and provided internal data related to the report on the Improper Solicitation and Scrutiny Act, which is a matter of confidentiality, to the Board Inspection and Inspection. This was done with the intention to pressure the chairman into resigning.”
