Gyeong-pil Yoo, the head of the Economic Crimes and Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, who was in charge of the investigation into the Daejang-dong development lobby and was excluded from work due to the so-called ‘split dinner’ controversy, submitted his resignation.

On the morning of the 21st, Deputy Prosecutor Yu resigned, saying, “I am about to leave the Prosecutor’s Office.”

Prosecutor Yoo said, “I knew that I was a prosecutor, so I looked forward and worked hard, but I think it’s time to put down the heavy burden. Looking back, there were many rewarding things, but there were also many sad moments.

He said, “I am truly sorry for causing a lot of concern with my recently unconsidered behavior.”

However, in relation to the specific law firm that has been raised in some circles, he drew a line saying, “It is not true at all.” Prosecutor Yoo said, “I have never thought about what to do to my fellow seniors and juniors, and I have no intention of doing so.”

He added, “Even if I go outside, I will support my fellow seniors and juniors a lot.”

Earlier, inside the prosecution, rumors spread that Deputy Prosecutor Yoo had looked into the possibility of getting a job at a law firm that served as a defense for the key accused accused of large-scale operation.

Prosecutor Yoo oversees the investigation of the Daejang-dong investigation team, which was launched in September last year, and arrested Kim Man-bae, a major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, and his partner, Nam Wook, a key figure in the Daejang-dong allegation.

However, immediately after arrest, he violated quarantine guidelines and held a so-called ‘splitting dinner’ at a restaurant in Seocho-dong, and seven investigative team members, including Prosecutor Yu, were confirmed to have been infected with Corona. Afterwards, he was effectively fired from the investigation team due to controversy over inappropriate conduct.
