Spokesperson Kim So-jung “Internal innovation is necessary for the people’s power to reform the nomination”

(Busan = International News) Reporter Ha-yeon Jo = In the last June local elections, the people’s power won a landslide victory in Busan, but the tasks seem to be plentiful. In order to win the general election two years later, there are also voices that it is urgent to solve the problems of ‘unfairness’ in the nomination process and the ‘missing’ of youth politics, which caused noise throughout the branch elections.

Spokesperson Kim said in an interview with the Korea Press Foundation, including international news, that “even though a youth-centered public review committee was formed, and the city party had a strong will to reform nominations, it was an event that ended in the end of the year.” .

Regarding the noise of nominations in the Busan area during the branch election process, he pointed out that the existing nomination practice in which the party association members exert influence was reproduced as it is. The people’s power The Busan City Party’s youth missionary members were unable to resist the pressure of the incumbent party association chairpersons, but it was not enough. In the case of Busan, as the support for the conservative party is quite strong, internal competition for nomination is fierce, and this is because the structure of interests with the regional party council chairperson is bound to be intertwined, spokesperson Kim explained.

Spokesperson Kim expected the so-called ‘water change nomination’ through the PPAT, an evaluation of qualifications for public office candidates introduced for the first time in this local election, but said, “It is difficult to realistically expect innovation yet.”

He added that there are situations in which strategic nominations have to be made in order to give young people a chance on the premise that new or young politicians and existing politicians are different from the starting line, but there is no way to quell internal opposition.

Spokesperson Kim shared his experience of becoming the previous chairman of the party association in Saha-gu, Busan through an open audition for the selection of the People’s Strength regional party association chairperson. He emphasized that other measures should be proposed.

At the same time, Spokesperson Kim selected ‘internal innovation’ as a way to reform the people’s power in relation to the nominations, and pointed out that “a decision is needed to form a consensus (among existing politicians) and put down a little selfishness that only thinks about themselves.” . He continued, “There are a lot of people who will play such a role in Busan, and it seems appropriate for such people to lead the nomination reform as the main pillar.”

Regarding concerns about the ruling party’s monopoly system in the 8th popular election in Busan, which will be launched on July 1, he said, “I don’t think there is a region where the opposition and the ruling party can cooperate as well as in Busan.” has been achieved and will continue this time as well,” he said.

Lastly, spokesperson Kim said, “The goal of the 8th popular election is to push forward without a hitch, such as the Busan Expo, the Busan Metropolitan City, and the Gadeok New Airport, which we are facing right now.”
