Sports Climbing Chae-Hyun Seo advances to the finals in 2nd place… 6 days to go up for medals

Seo Chae-hyeon (18, The North Face), a promising player in Korean sports climbing, made a feat of advancing to the Tokyo Olympic finals.

Seo Chae-hyeon placed 2nd in the women’s combine qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at Aomi Urban Sports Park in Tokyo, Japan on the 4th, and obtained the right to the finals given to the top eight.

In sports climbing, three events, speed, bouldering, and lead, are ranked, and the total score is obtained by multiplying all rankings. The top 8 in the lowest total score will advance to the finals. Because it is necessary to ‘multiply’, it is very advantageous to have a clear first place in even one event.

Speed competes with the speed of climbing a 15m rock wall. Bouldering requires you to pass without a rope, a task consisting of various structures mounted on a 4.5 m high rock wall. Reed evaluates how high they can climb a rock wall of 12 m or more in 6 minutes. In speed, Chae-Hyun Seo recorded 10.01 seconds in A lane and 11.74 seconds in B lane, placing 17th in the middle ranking. Alexandra Miroslav (Poland), who climbed the A lane in 6.97 seconds, took first place. In the bouldering that followed, he finished 5th with 5 top climbing and 5 zone attempts out of 4 attempts. The middle ranking has been moved up to 10th. He flew in the lead in the last event he was most confident of. The number of held holds reached 40+, surpassing Jessica Plitz (Austria), who recorded 33+, to take the overwhelming first place.

Seo Chae-hyeon was ranked 17th in speed, 5th in bouldering, and 1st in lead, and earned 85 points in the total multiplied by these, and advanced to the finals with excellent results in 2nd overall.

The final will be held on the 6th at 5:30 pm at the same location.
