Sputnik vaccine can protect against the Omicron variant; Russia with claims – e News

Russian authorities claim that their Sputnik vaccine is capable of fighting the latest variant of Kovid found in South Africa. This was stated by Kirill Dmitry, CEO of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund.

Kirill Dimitriev said that Russia’s indigenously developed Sputnik V and Sputnik light vaccines have so far effectively combated various Kovid variants of the virus. Sputnik is 83 percent effective against the previously discovered Delta variant.

At the same time, it is not yet clear how the vaccine will counteract the omicron variant of Kovid, but Kirill Dimitriev hopes that the vaccine will be as effective against the omicron variant as it is against all Kovid variants.

In any case, the new variants can only be fully understood in the next two to three weeks under the current circumstances, and only then can we say exactly how effective they are.
