Steelseries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023) wireless gaming keyboard recommendation, even a comfortable palm rest! : Dana and DPG DPG my heart

There are many cases where you have to show off your gear in games as well. In particular, if the play is a long-term game, even a small inconvenience can lead to a big mistake even for gamers who focus on the five senses, so if possible, find the most equipment comfortable for you. In this post, we will look at the Steelseries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023) as a recommended mechanical wireless keyboard.

Personally, I prefer a brand called SteelSeries. As the world’s first esports brand, it still pursues originality for gamers. This also refers to equipment already used by many pro players. I think it would be good to refer to the Steelseries wireless mouse and wireless headphones review that I previously reviewed via the link below.

The SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023), preferred by pro gamers, belongs to the premium line as a recommended gaming keyboard. Of course, it’s not just a high-end feeling, but it also offers various advantages in terms of functionality. Easy-to-use customization for the fastest keystrokes or typing accuracy.

If you look at the product configuration, the manual is included including the keyboard body, palm rest, USB-C type dongle receiver, extension adapter, USB C to A cable, and key cap removal. Although it came out in a wireless TKL form factor, it is a keyboard that can be used both wired as well as charging. The USB cable is made of hard fabric and has a soft and hard feel, so there is no risk of tangling or disconnection.

The body of the keyboard is made of aircraft grade aluminum alloy. In fact, it feels quite heavy. It uses a 5000 Series metal top, which is the same aluminum used for jets. It seems that it can guarantee not only durability but also stability during keystroke to some extent.

The included palm rest is magnetically attached to the bottom of the keyboard. It is not strongly magnetic, but when typing with both hands on the keyboard, the rest of the palm does not slide while creating a stable position for the wrist.

About 30 hours of use when fully charged (40 hours when keycap light is disabled in Bluetooth mode)

When I touched the keycaps, I could feel the unique texture of the Steelseries that I couldn’t feel on other keyboards. Double shot PBT keycaps are applied to improve quality and durability. I could taste the keying sensation that was soft and wrapped around my fingers. Also, despite the matte black color, it’s not the kind of keycap that leaves fingerprints easily.

The base has tilting legs that can be adjusted in height. The height adjustment can be set in 3 steps up to half and full extension. 6 anti-slip pads provide support so it doesn’t slide easily even with strong keys.

The most visually impressive thing about this keyboard is the OLED display. It acts as a simple status bar, but lets you adjust basic settings, change profile content, check for updates, or display useful information to the user.

You can check the Steelseries logo and battery status on the most basic display. There is also a wheel next to the status bar, which basically acts as a media volume down and up. OLED status display window information can be custom designed through the SteelSeries Engine, a dedicated program.

The SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023) wireless keyboard supports the Quantum 2.0 wireless system. It supports 2.4Ghz high speed and Bluetooth v5.0, and you can enjoy games without delay. The Bluetooth or wireless mode located on the top side can be changed as needed with the physical selector. At the same time, this slide switch is also a power source.

Obviously, Tenkeyless (TKL) is more convenient for gaming environments. This is because it secures a space so that it does not interfere with the mouse radius. On a full-size keyboard, sometimes the mouse accidentally hits the right side of the keyboard, which sometimes causes erroneous input.

FYI, this product has an omni point 2.0 switch. It uses a state-of-the-art magnetic sensor to instantly activate zero-contact keystrokes, which can be adjusted to the desired speed. Compared to conventional mechanical keyboards, it has 11x faster response time, 10 times faster operation, and 2x more durability.

One feature that struck me personally was the ability to customize keystrokes through the Steel Engine program. In other words, it is possible to set the key weight with near perfect accuracy for me. Adjust keystroke recording distance to the nearest 0.1mm. Whether you prefer the very light touch of 0.2mm or the hard press of 3.8mm, you can adjust the key weight to suit you.

If you want to learn more about the engine program, you can not only customize RGB lighting of keycaps, but also edit macros. This is what I felt when I did several installations. The disadvantage of the durable PBT keycap itself is that the LED transmission is low, but it feels more luxurious to me since the RGB lighting is not excessive.

In Steelseries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023), the Omni Point key has only character strings, and the other direction keys, command and function keys directly above it (column F) are red axes. Personally, I think it would have been a perfect combination if the omni point key could be applied to the direction keys, but this part is a bit disappointing.

The palm rest, which can be attached to the keyboard, felt more comfortable with both hands than I expected. I really like the fact that it doesn’t put any strain on my fingers and wrists even after typing for a long time. I’ve tried a variety of mechanical keyboards, but this is the only keyboard I’ve ever felt comfortable with.

Users who mainly play mechanical keyboards for gaming will know it well. It means that there are more cases of repeatedly pressing a certain key than you think. If the keycap itself is not soft, a situation where it is easy to enter incorrectly happens quite often.

In this case, the omni point key pressure control can be seen to shine. As mentioned earlier, you can use the SteelSeries Engine software to set different key weights to differentiate between frequently used keys and unused keycaps. You can create your own presets in advance by defining a gaming or non-gaming environment, and recall them whenever needed to respond to situations that match the environment.

It definitely feels like the gaming environment is easier than before. There was a feeling of suffocation (?) of something unknown in the current mechanical keyboard, and the feeling of unresolved key operation was subtle, but this keyboard seems to have solved those problems. It was hard to find a keyboard environment that suited me perfectly when changing various axis switches, but I found it with this product.

So far, we have looked at the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL WL (2023). Being a premium lineup, it forms a high price range. However, if you’re looking for the ultimate in gaming keyboard recommendations, I’d recommend you go for it. For more information about the product, check the link below. Thanks for reading. 🙂
