Kottayam: Clashes broke out during a march to the UDF Collectorate to protest against the beating of Congress and Youth Congress leaders by CPM activists. Police lathicharged the activists. Water cannon and tear gas were applied. Activists continued to throw stones and sticks at the collectorate. Traffic was light at Kottayam.
They also marched to the East police station. Kottayam DySP J Santhosh Kumar and Congress workers were injured in the collision. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan MLA fell ill after using tear gas.
Chintu Kurian, district president of the Youth Congress, was injured in a clash with DYFI activists during a protest rally in Kottayam against the attack on Rahul Gandhi’s MP’s office in Wayanad yesterday. A march was held today to the Collectorate to protest against this.
