Maki Kazi, who played a key role in popularizing Sudoku, the world’s number one puzzle game, has died in Mitara, Tokyo, Japan. He was 69 years old. Kazi had been undergoing treatment for gallbladder cancer for a long time. He has been described as the godfather of sudoku.

Kazi was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He received his schooling from the local Shakoji High School. Kazi later enrolled for a degree in English Literature at Keo University but did not complete his college studies. He then worked as a hotel waiter and construction worker. Kazi has been a fan of puzzle and problem games since a young age.

He then got a job at a printing company. Based on this experience, he started a magazine called Nicole in 193. It was a magazine that published puzzles and games. In 1984, Nicole published Sudoku Game in her magazine.

Sudoku was first drafted by the famous Swiss mathematician Leonard Oiler in the 18th century. Modern sudoku was designed in 1979 by the American architect Howard Gans. But Maki Kazi’s contribution is in simplifying and popularizing it. Maki Kaji also named the game Sudoku, a combination of the Japanese words ‘su’ meaning ‘number’ and ‘doku’ meaning ‘single’. He is credited with being the godfather of sudoku, as he made significant contributions to the game’s popularity.

Developed as a fun puzzle for children and adults alike, Maki Kazi plays sudoku with numbers from 1 to 9. 9 squares to the right and down. And 9 sub-squares. Sudoku is played by filling in the numbers on the right and bottom rows without repeating the numbers in each subclass.
