For the first time in history, a woman will join the referees in the Super Bowl, a match that decides the annual champion of the US Professional Football League (NFL).
According to the NFL, Sarah Thomas was selected as one of the referees for the 55th Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, on February 7.
Thomas has always made history. In 2015, she was the first woman to be nominated as a permanent referee. In 2019, he was the first female referee to participate in the playoffs.
The NFL congratulated Thomas in a statement saying he had the right to serve as a Super Bowl referee for his outstanding performance and dedication.
Mr. Thomas will form a refereeing team with the other seven members. Together, he has been a referee in the NFL for 88 years and has 77 games in the playoffs. Some members have served as referees in the Super Bowl in the past.
