Surgery: Village officer dies; Suspension to doctor | Trivandrum Medical College

Thiruvananthapuram: In the incident where a village officer died after undergoing thyroid surgery at a private hospital in Adoor, the surgery department of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, Asst. Professor Dr. Jayan Stephen has been suspended.

While medical college doctors are not allowed to practice privately, Drs. Jayan was undergoing surgery at a private hospital. The director of medical education was suspended.

The deceased has been identified as S. Kala (49), wife of Jayakumar and Adoor village officer of Adoor village. The surgery was on Friday. He had a heart attack early Saturday morning.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Kollam by ambulance along with doctors and nurses who succumbed to his injuries at 10 am on Saturday.

The relatives lodged a complaint with Minister Veena George alleging medical malpractice. Dr. The minister said there was a serious fall on Jayan’s part. Dr. Hospital officials, who did not include Jayan’s name in the records, explained that two other doctors led the operation. But he said he had surgery. Jayan agreed with the inquiry committee.
