Surprising news from Madrid. Marco Asensio will leave Real Madrid at the end of this season, according to Spanish media.

The 27-year-old striker has been negotiating with Real since the beginning of the year to extend his contract, which expires in June. The club wanted him to stay, they offered him an extension, but Asensio refused. The Spaniard believes that he deserved a more prominent role in the team and did not want to sign, so he will be a free agent from the end of June.

Asensio has been at Santiago Bernabeu for seven years since he arrived from Mallorca in 2014. This season he played 50 games for Real Madrid, scoring 12 goals and registering eight assists.

He won 17 major trophies during his seven years at the club: three Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey.

Athletic writes that Aston Villa is interested, but also that Asensija wants several clubs from the Premier League and Serie A.
