Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson was elected Prime Minister by one vote in a parliamentary ratification vote held at the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm on the 24th local time.

It was a historic moment that set the record for being Sweden’s first female prime minister to be a swimmer.

Foreign media reported that five Nordic countries – Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland – have all had female prime ministers.

However, the news of his resignation came after about 12 hours.

Prime Minister Andersson was due to take office on the 26th after a meeting with the king.

He resigned without even having an inauguration ceremony due to conflicts within the coalition government.

It started with a budget.

The Social Democratic Party to which Prime Minister Andersson belongs was rejected by the parliament and the budget submitted by the opposition was passed.

The Green Party, which had been in alliance with Prime Minister Andersson, announced its withdrawal from the coalition.

In the coalition government, Prime Minister Andersson made it clear that he would follow the constitutional practice that the prime minister should step down if a party leaves the coalition government and that he intends to re-apply as prime minister in the future.

<안데르손 / 스웨덴 총리> “I met with the Speaker of the National Assembly and announced that I would step down from the post of Prime Minister. I told the Chairman that I hope to be nominated by the Prime Minister as head of the single-party government of the Social Democratic Party.”

It is analyzed that this is an indication of the will to form a cabinet by forming a majority party in the general election in September next year.

Local media reported that the Green Party has decided to support Andersson again in the new Prime Minister’s Election, and the case will work in Andersson’s favor.
