Panels can be said to be the bitterness of Taiwan’s technology industry. At the beginning of the 21st century, under the government’s “two trillion double stars” (DRAM and LCD) program, it was once popular. Today, in the global LCD panel market, Chinese factories have won 60.8%, Taiwanese factories 21.4%, and Korean factories 11.5%. Research agency Omida believes that the market share of Chinese factories is expected to reach 64.3% in 2022, while Taiwan factories and Korean factories will shrink to 19% and 10.1%. Facing the continuous expansion of Chinese factories, Samsung has planned to withdraw from LCD production in June this year. .

The solution for Taiwan factories to break through is to master higher-level Micro LED technology. “The industry believes that Micro LED technology is the most complete panel technology at present, and Taiwan has a complete supply chain and is quite competitive in the global panel industry.”

Although the flagship mobile devices on the market mostly use Mini LED technology, the thickness is still flawed, which is regarded as excessive technology by the industry, and the OLED technology used in the market has the problem of recession. Micro LED is difficult to distinguish with the naked eye because of the crystal, which makes the panel become It is thinner and lighter, consumes less power, and has no recession problems. It can be said to be the most perfect technology for AR and wearable devices, but it is still stuck in the high cost of mass production.

Therefore, Micro LED has become the biggest attraction of Touch Taiwan 2022. Important Taiwanese manufacturers are AUO (2409), Innolux (3481), Fucai (3714), and Chichuang. Among them, Fucai and Chichuang are the most critical.

CTWANT reporters saw a 5-meter-tall large-scale screen in this year’s exhibition hall of Nangang Exhibition Center. It is made by Yuanfeng New Technology, a subsidiary of Fucai, with flip-chip Mini LED 0404 package and special module technology. It has high color saturation and extreme black features.

“The most difficult part of Micro LED is that a large number of crystals have to be transferred to the substrate, which is the so-called mass transfer. In addition, the crystals are extremely small. If there is a defective point, how to detect and repair it, if it can be done in the simplest way If the method is excluded, I believe the cost should be reduced very quickly.” The engineer who explained on the scene of Fucai told CTWANT reporters.

In order to let Taiwan dominate the Micro LED technology, Li Bingjie, chairman of Fucai, integrated upstream Epistar (2448) and downstream Longda (3698) in early 2021, and hired AUO Peng Shuanglang as vice chairman, which can be called the most luxurious lineup in the panel industry chain. However, at this year’s exhibition, Fucai produced solutions for mass production of MicroLED technology, but Fucai’s investment in Chichuang is even more interesting.

“At present, the Taiwan factory is Chichuang closest to mass production of Micro LEDs.” Zeng Junzhou said, for example, a 4K panel needs about 24.88 million MicroLEDs, and Chichuang has now achieved a massive transfer of 300,000 pieces; , because only one die smaller than 50μm cannot be replaced, the solution of Chitron is to replace the blocks around the dead pixel together, and detecting the dead pixel is another technology of Chitron.

Li Yunli, chairman of Chichuang, was born in the LED industry. In order to invest in Micro LED development, he started his business in 2013. After two fundraisings, Samsung currently holds 20% of the shares, Fucai nearly 20%, and AUO and Lite-On Technology also hold shares.

On the other hand, it looks at US$4.5 billion (about NT$132.8 billion), with a compound annual growth rate of 204%. It will enter a peak period from 2026 to 2030. It is expected that the annual output value is expected to reach 10 billion US dollars. The relationship trades this off.
