Dubai: R Ashwin responds to Gautam Gambhir’s comment on David Warner’s six off a two – pitch ball by Mohammad Hafeez during the Pakistan – Australia semi – final at the T20 World Cup. Gambhir tweeted that Warner’s performance in hitting six off a slippery slope was pathetic and in line with the spirit of cricket and asked Ashwin what he was saying.

This is what Ashwin has now responded to. Gambhir said that if it’s right to hit Warner’s six on the dead ball, it’s also true that he’s knocked out Jose Buttler in the past. Ashwin explains that Gambhir said that if it was not right, I would have done it then.

During the IPL, Ashwin was accused of not waiting for the dignity of cricket after he ran for the second run after being hit on the body by a fielder’s throw batter. Ashwin’s reply was all about the mind. It was a rare event in cricket during the Pakistan-Australia semi-final in Dubai on Thursday. Australia were bowled out for 177 by Pakistan. In the eighth over, the 41-year-old Hafeez slipped the ball out of the hands of the Panthers, pitched twice and came close to Warner, who was on strike. Warner jumped from the crease and hit a huge six through the midwicket. The umpire called Noble after he pitched twice.

Anyway, in that one shot of Warner, the cricket world turned into two. One group said Warner’s was not in the spirit of cricket. Another group said that all this was allowed by law. It was after this that Gautam Gambhir clarified his position and asked Ashwin for his opinion.

Warner was out for 49 in the match. The star was instrumental in helping Australia win. Warner caught the wicket-keeper off Shadab Khan. But later in the replays and the snico meter it became clear that the ball was not in Warner’s bat. Warner left the crease without even waiting for the umpire’s decision after Shadab Khan and Mohammad Rizwan appealed. Despite losing the middle order, Matthew Wade (41 off 17 balls) and Marcus Stones (40 off 31 balls) led Australia to victory.
