T20 World Cup: Namibia beat Ireland in Super 12

Dubai: Namibia beat Ireland by eight wickets to advance to the Super 12 Super Twelve in the decisive qualifier for the T20 World Cup 2021. Batting first, Ireland scored 125 for eight in 20 overs while Namibia reached the target in 18.3 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Namibia finished second in the group, which also includes Sri Lanka. With the victory of Namibia, Ireland and the Netherlands were eliminated without qualifying for the Super 12. Namibia is competing in the group that includes India in the Super 12.

Captain Gerard Erasmus (53 off 49 balls) and David Weiss (28 off 14 balls) were the main contributors to Ireland’s victory. Namibia lost openers Sane Green (24) and Craig Williams (15).

Ireland, who had won the toss and elected to bat first, collapsed after a good start. Sterling (38 off 24 balls) and Kevin O’Brien (25 off 24 balls) put on 62 for the opening wicket in 7.2 overs. But Ireland’s scoring slowed as they lost first Sterling and then O’Brien. Ireland were bowled out for 101 in the 16th over when they lost captain Balbir (21).

Despite taking wickets in the last four overs, Ireland managed just 24 runs. For Namibia, John Frilling took three wickets for 21 runs in four overs while David Wise took two wickets for 22 runs.
