T20 World Cup: Shakib Al Hasan edits World Cup all-time great wicket-taker

Sharjah: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan holds the record for most wickets in T20 World Cup 2021. Shakib has taken 41 wickets in six World Cups. Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets in the match against Sri Lanka yesterday. Bangla all-rounder bowled Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando.

Shakib surpassed Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi by 39 wickets in World Cup history. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga is third on the list with 38 wickets. Shakib has taken the most wickets (117) in international T20s.

Shakib shined but lost

Sri Lanka won the match by five wickets, beating Bangladesh by 172 runs. Charitha Asalanka (80 * off 49 balls) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (53 off 31 balls) were the main contributors to Sri Lanka’s victory. Score Bangladesh: 171/4 (20), Sri Lanka: 172-5 (18.5 Ov). Asalanka is the man of the match.

Batting first, Bangladesh scored 171 for four in the allotted overs. Mohammad Naim (62 off 52 balls) and Mushfiqur Rahim (57 not out off 37 balls) were the top scorers for the Bengal Tigers. Lytton Das (16), Shakib Al Hasan (10), Afif Hossain (7) and Mohammadullah (10 *) were the other batsmen to score. For Sri Lanka, Karunaratne, Fernando and Lahiru took one wicket each.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost opener Kushal Perera in the first ball of the innings. Asalanka and Rajapaksa put Sri Lanka on course for victory with an 86-run stand. While Asalanka remained unbeaten on 80, Rajapaksa returned with 53 runs. Sri Lanka won by five wickets with seven balls to spare. Nass, Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets each while Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket.
