Taking ‘vitamins’ is the easiest way for the general public to choose ‘vitamins’ to increase immunity and increase physical strength as outdoor activities such as exercise are reduced due to the cold in winter.

However, experts point out that there is no specific nutritional supplement that Koreans must take. In other words, taking vitamin supplements can be ‘excessive use and non-payment (過猶不及)’.

In particular, there are many ‘high-content functional vitamins’ that are said to help relieve fatigue and improve physical strength, attracting people’s attention.

Professor Kwon Hyuk-tae of the Department of Family Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital said on the 22nd that when looking at various health data of the Korean people, such as the National Health and Nutrition Survey, there is no concern about a specific nutrient deficiency.

Professor Kwon said, “Recently, there are people who take 3 to 4, up to 10 kinds of various vitamins a day to the extent that some people say that they are full of nutritional supplements. In fact, it is difficult to see this as a state of nutritional deficiency.”

He said, “Even if you look at the definition of a nutrient, most of it can be ingested through food.

Regarding the opinion that high-content vitamin intake has an immediate effect of relieving fatigue, he said, “It is a kind of placebo (placebo) effect. see,” he said.

Professor Kwon emphasized that what is more frightening than vitamin deficiency is the possible side effects of excessive intake.

Since it became known that Koreans have low vitamin D levels, there are people who take a vitamin D supplement while taking a multivitamin, and get vitamin D injections.

Professor Kwon said, “In general, if the level of vitamin D in the blood is 30 ng/mL or higher, it is normal and there is no problem if it exceeds 20 ng/mL. It is best to be in There is nothing better than that,” he pointed out.

He also warned, “There is also a study showing that vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin, causes lung cancer if smokers take large amounts.”

He explained that it is necessary to look at which nutrients are not well taken in consideration of one’s health condition, medical history, age, and eating pattern.

Professor Kwon said, “The older people lose their appetite as they get older, and this can lead to a lack of one or two nutrients. These people recommend taking at least one multivitamin. There are often cases when the nutritional imbalance of people is serious, so you need to check your own food intake,” he said.

I also didn’t forget the advice that solving the root cause that harms my health is more effective for my body than indiscriminate intake of nutritional supplements.

Professor Kwon said, “If you drink too much, vitamin B-based nutritional supplements can help improve your health, but you should first think about whether you need to drink alcohol while taking vitamins.”
