Taliban Appoints Acting Governor of the Bank of Afghanistan Hope to take care of the banking sector moving forward

The Taliban has announced the appointment of Hajji Mohammad Idres as acting governor of the Central Bank of Afghanistan (DAB).

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said: Appointment of Mohammad as Acting Governor of DAB The goal is to make the processes in the banking sector can continue as well as to solve trade problems and difficulties of the people

DAB Governor Appointment It comes after government and private banks have been closed since Aug. 15 after the Taliban seized Kabul. and President Ashraf Ghani later fled the country.

Since the United States began withdrawing troops from Afghanistan on May 1, the Taliban has rapidly advanced to occupy most of the country. By the past two weeks The Taliban has taken control of 33 of the 34 provinces.

The US government has seized nearly $9.5 billion of DAB assets and has suspended cash flows to Afghanistan. to prevent the Taliban-led Afghan government from accessing these funds.

DAB’s assets are about $9.5 billion. These funds are deposited in accounts opened with the Federal Reserve Bank (Fed), the New York branch, and several other US financial institutions.

The sanctions imposed by the United States against the Taliban This made the Taliban unable to access any funding sources. Most of the DAB’s assets are currently not in Afghanistan.
