Tesla’s founder and CEO, Elon Musk, became the first billionaire in the world to cross the $300 billion mark.
The US’ Bloomberg News reported that Musk’s net worth exceeded $300 billion on the 29th in the World Billionaires Index compiled by the company.
Musk’s fortune has skyrocketed recently as Tesla’s stock has continued to rise above $1,000.
As a result, Musk’s net worth stood at $311 billion as of the 30th, a large gap of more than $100 billion from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ $195 billion.
US media reported that Musk’s fortune is larger than that of Vietnam and Finland, which had a gross domestic product (GDP) of $270 billion last year.
The world’s third-largest billionaire is LVMH Chairman Bernard Arnault of France, which owns Louis Vuitton, with $167 billion, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates is fourth with $136 billion.
Except for Arnault, the world’s top 10 billionaires are all Americans.
