Testing in India is tough; Victory Greater than the Ashes: Steve Smith | MALAYALA MANORAMA

Australia’s Steve Smith says winning the Test series in India is more than winning the Ashes. Smith’s words come as the four-Test series against India begins. The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be held on February 9.

Australia have won just one Test match in India since the 2004-05 tour. In 2017, Australia won the match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium by 333 runs. Aussies have played 15 Tests in India since Australia won at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in 2004. Out of this, Australia won one test and drew three. India won the rest of the matches.

This is a hard place to win. If we can climb that mountain, that’s a big thing. “If we win in India, it will be bigger than the Ashes,” Smith said in a video shared by Cricket Australia. Aussie captain Cummins also responded that Australia rarely won the Ashes in India compared to away matches.

Mr Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc said that it would be difficult to play against such a strong team under the conditions in India. Cummins and his team are determined to avenge two consecutive defeats by India on Australian soil in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. But the Test series win against Australia is crucial for India to secure the World Test Championship final.
