Takraw Sports Association of Thailand Holds Meetings to Appoint New President

The executive committee of the Takraw Sports Association from Thailand convened at the prestigious Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel on 16 September. One of the primary items on the agenda was the election of a new president for the association. This decision was necessitated by the unfortunate demise of “Big Ja” Maj. Gen Charuek Areerakaran, the erstwhile President of the Takraw Sports Association in Thailand. As per the regulations imposed by the Sports Authority of Thailand, it was imperative to fill the vacant position within 30 days through an election process.

Following the election, two highly deserving candidates emerged as frontrunners for the presidency. “Big Tom” Mr Thana Chaiprasit, the current Vice President of the Thai Olympic Committee and a prominent figure in the Thai national team, went head-to-head against Boonchai Lorpipat, the Treasurer of the Takraw Association of Thailand and Vice President of the International Takraw Federation. Ultimately, Mr Thana secured a resounding victory with a compelling tally of 22-10. Consequently, he has assumed the esteemed role of President of the Takraw Association of Thailand for a four-year tenure spanning from 2666-2027.

Mr Thana, widely acclaimed for his leadership within the Thai national team and extensive experience in international competitions, expressed his gratitude to the member clubs for entrusting him with this significant responsibility. He envisages fulfilling the legacy left by Major General Charuek by dedicating himself to his duties with unwavering commitment. Embracing the vision outlined by Major General Ramrak, Mr Thana recognizes the urgency of resolving internal conflicts within the organization. Currently, the association stands divided into factional groups, impeding its harmonious functioning. Post the conclusion of the Asian Games, Mr Thana intends to attentively address the concerns expressed by all parties and expedite efforts to restore unity and cohesion.
