It turns out that the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, 26th of this month, has a performance-oriented function called high power mode. US media MacRumors reports that it has confirmed with Apple.

16-inch MacBook Pro has a “high power mode”

The high power mode can only be used with the 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with M1 Max. It is not available on models with 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro chips.

It’s unclear exactly how it works, but MacRumors will perform best on tasks such as color grading of 8K ProRes video. The beta description of macOS Monterey reveals that it can be useful for performance-optimizing and resource-intensive tasks, and that using this feature can make fans louder.

It seems that we have to wait for reports from users after the MacBook Pro goes on sale to see how much the feature will improve performance.
