“The act of despair”… British bride to protest after stitching her mouth with needles

[이데일리 이선영 기자] A British priest took part in protests after stitching herself in the mouth, criticizing the media for ignoring the climate crisis.

According to foreign media reports such as Euronews on the 3rd (local time), Father Tim Hughes, 71, held a protest in front of the British media ‘News UK’ building on the 2nd, stitching his mouth together. ‘News UK’ is a media under the media group ‘News Corporation’ owned by world-renowned media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.

Hueys asserted that “the big media are turning away from the climate crisis and negatively affecting the government’s climate response policies.” He said, “Sewing the mouth is an act of despair.”

He added, “There are countless people worldwide who have lost their voice and are suffering because of the climate crisis,” he said.

On the same day, the Christian Climate Action (CCA), an activist group to combat climate change, released a video of Father Hughes sewing his clothes with thread on its official Twitter account.

He looked in the mirror and began to sew his mouth with his hands, regardless of the flowing blood. After wiping off the blood and sweat with a tissue after stitching all of their mouths, they held a sign and held a protest in front of the front door of the News UK building.

Hughes was a member of ‘Christian Climate Action’, which delivered a video of the protest, and was imprisoned for protesting in March last year. ‘Christian Climate Action’ is a Christian organization under the ‘Extinction Resistance’ (EX), a climate change prevention movement group, and has been promoting nonviolent action to urge response to the climate crisis.
