In addition to the host, 6 teams are generated through the Olympic qualifying competition, and the other 5 teams are determined by the world rankings.
The Olympic Qualifying Tournament will be based on the world rankings to determine the participation of the TOP24 men’s and women’s teams. The world ranking deadline is September 12, 2022 for men’s volleyball and October 17, 2022 for women’s volleyball. The 24 teams are divided into 3 groups of 8 teams according to the world rankings, and each group will compete in the three places. The 3 hosts will be from qualified teams and occupy the top three sub-positions (the top seeds in each group).
The remaining 21 teams enter three groups in a serpentine arrangement by ranking. Each group competes in a single round robin, with the top two winning the Olympic berth. The men’s and women’s volleyball competitions will be September 30-October 8, 2023 and September 16-24, 2023. Other teams that have not qualified for the Olympic Games will then divide the last 5 seats according to the world rankings of the 2024 National Volleyball League (June 24 for the men’s volleyball team and June 17 for the women’s volleyball team).
