The building of the Russian Federal Security Service in Rostov is on fire

Reuters reports the report of the Russian TASS, which states that at least one person died and two were injured in the fire of the FSB building.

Images posted on social media show large flames engulfing parts of the building with smoke visible from all parts of the city.

Local residents say that a loud explosion was heard before the fire broke out.

The governor of Rostov, Vasiliy Golubev, said that the fire was caused by a short circuit in electrical installations.

“The spread of the fire was caused by the explosion of a fuel canister,” he said in a message posted on the Telegram channel.

The surrounding buildings were evacuated and the authorities started an investigation, said Golubev, adding that the fire spread to an area larger than 800 square meters.

Russian media reported on the fire citing emergency services, stating that the building belonged to the regional border department of the FSB.

The FSB is Russia’s internal security service responsible for counterintelligence activities, border security and the fight against terrorism.

Emergency services are on the scene as the fire appears to be burning on the ground floor of a building in Rostov.
