The Korean women’s soccer team, led by coach Colin Bell, won a thrilling comeback victory over New Zealand. The prepared ‘counterattack’ paid off.

‘Bell Ho’ won the first match against New Zealand 2-1 at the Goyang Sports Complex on the 27th.

Korea played a difficult game in the first half, but the quick transition and counterattack that they had prepared during training shone in the second half and turned the game around.

Ahead of the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup finals, Korea gained valuable confidence and experience with this victory. The second game will be held at the same location on the 30th at 7pm. Korea took the lead by turning the ball step by step from the rear centering on Ji So-yeon. In the second minute of the first half, Chu Hyo-joo penetrated deep into New Zealand’s camp and crossed, but the goalkeeper caught it.

The opening goal came from New Zealand. In the 25th minute of the first half, Ali Riley’s cross was unmarked, but Jockey Hand headed the goal and opened the goal for Korea.

After conceding the opening goal, Korea was greatly shaken. New Zealand did not miss this opportunity and completely changed the mood.

New Zealand took control of the midfield with strength and height and pressed Korea, and Korea was put into crisis by allowing Abba Collins and Betsy Hassett to break through in succession.

Korea, which had landed, could hardly break through the path as the attacking pass was blocked. In the first half, Hyo-joo Choo attacked and tried to shoot, but it went straight to the goalkeeper.

At the start of the second half, Korea put in Lee Geum-min and Choi Yu-ri, a ‘fighter’, and applied more aggressive and strong pressure from the front.

This card was hit. The second half was again at the Korean pace.

In the 10th and 12th minutes of the second half, Korea, which had been in the mood with Ji So-yeon’s breakthrough, found a way out little by little with strong pressure and counterattacks that could not be used throughout the first half.

Korea, who continued to beat, scored an equalizer in the 14th minute of the second half.

Choi Yu-ri’s cross, which broke through the New Zealand’s rear space, headed towards Chu Hyo-joo, and was hit by Meykala Moore who was trying to kick the ball and went straight into the goal.

After the recovery goal, Korea completely got on the flow. In the 21st minute of the second half, Ji So-yeon’s free kick hit the post, and in the 25th minute of the second half, Hyo-joo Chu’s long-range shot was saved by goalkeeper Anna Ritt. In the 29th minute of the second half, the substitute Yeo Min-ji shot a shot, but it went straight to the goalkeeper.

Korea, which had been driving hard, finished the cross posted by Jo So-hyeon in the 35th minute of the second half with a header, and Lim Seon-joo made a comeback 2-1.

In the 43rd minute of the second half, Choi Yuri’s powerful shot, which received Ji So-yeon’s pass, was hit by the defender and deflected, giving strength for the rest of the time.

In the end, ‘Bell Ho’ finished the first game with a comeback victory with a counterattack in the second half.
