The export of spices across the seas continues to flourish

Spice exports continue to grow in the country. The recovery of the Covid crisis and the elimination of problems in the shipping sector have boosted exports. At the beginning of the current financial year, the export sector was facing a downturn. In the first five months, the export of spices was down 5 percent. Cumin, Coriander, Chili, Mint etc. are mainly exported.

Growth of exports to 450 dollars in the financial year 2023. The growth was 4.13 billion dollars during the same period last year. Compared to the previous year, an increase of 9 per cent was recorded this year. About 15 to 20 percent of the spices produced in the country are exported. The rest is mainly used for domestic use.

According to estimates, the annual production is around 11 million tonnes per year. Spices are mainly exported to China, Bangladesh, USA, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Malaysia.
