Kyodo News reported that the first cluster infection of COVID-19 occurred at the Tokyo Olympic Athletes’ Village in Japan.
According to the report, the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee announced that four Greek artistic swimmers and one official have tested positive for COVID-19.
These five were staying at the Athletes’ Village.
Masanori Takaya, a spokesperson for the organizing committee, said, “I cannot but say that it is a mass infection.”
All 12 members of the Greek Artistic Swimming Squad, including 7 who tested negative for COVID-19, were transferred to lodging care facilities or waiting facilities.
Greece will be banned from competing in the artistic swimming duets and teams.
