Regarding the death of the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in a child under the age of 10 in Korea, the quarantine authorities said that it was “a case confirmed post-mortem after visiting a medical institution.”

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), among the 44 new deaths on the 30th, one person aged 0-9 was included. Authorities are currently investigating the route of infection and the cause of death of the deceased child.

Koh Jae-young, a spokesperson for the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said at a briefing at the Central Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters on the same day, “On the 28th, a child under the age of 10 died after visiting the emergency room and was confirmed posthumously.” , and since the 20th, symptoms such as fever and sore throat,” he explained.

As of today, there are 661 patients with severe cases in the hospital. Among them, 556 people were in their 60s or older, accounting for the majority. It was followed by people in their 50s and 60s, 25 in their 40s, 15 in their 30s, and 1 in their 20s. Three teenagers are minors, and one is under the age of 10. All of them were found to have underlying diseases.
