Former President Roh Tae-woo. He was a politician in the transition period when our society was transitioning to democratization, and he was the last heir to the military regime.
In 1987, when demands for democratization erupted, he succeeded in seizing power through the adoption of a direct system and the division of the democratic camp. .

Last December 1979.
Roh Tae-woo led the 12/12 military coup by moving his 9th Division troops from the front to the Central Office with tanks.
Noh, who was Chun Doo-hwan’s 11th class mate and a key member of Hanahoe, a private organization within the military, emerged as the second-in-command in the new military and quickly seized power in reality.
Chun Doo-hwan became the presidential candidate of the ruling Democratic Justice Party in 1987, when the so-called 4.13 constitutional measures were taken for the so-called gymnasium election.

The desire for democratization to end the military dictatorship, however, failed to unify the two opposition candidates Kim Young-sam and Kim Dae-jung, leading to the 6th Republic of the Roh Tae-woo regime.

During his tenure in power, he promoted northern diplomacy with socialist countries such as the Soviet Union and China, and both Koreas joined the UN at the same time.
However, the labor movement and the student movement were strongly suppressed and clashes erupted throughout his tenure.
The three-party coalition seemed to have avoided the crisis and transferred power safely, but the slush fund was exposed in the National Assembly.

“I was able to clearly confirm the reality of the 400 billion slush fund.”
When it was revealed that he had hidden a slush fund worth 400 billion won, he had to stand before the court of law, and was eventually arrested in November 1995.

“It’s a shame and a sad feeling. The government fund is wrong, but it’s been a long-standing practice in our politics.”
Afterwards, the charge of rebellion was added to the special law on 12.12 and 5.18 and he was sentenced to 22 years and 6 months in prison, and then 17 years in prison.
Former President Roh, who was imprisoned in Seoul Detention Center, was released two years later at the request of then-President-elect Kim Dae-jung.
