[세종=뉴스핌] Correspondent of Cheng Xiao = The government held the first discussion on the operation direction of the 2.4 trillion won climate response fund, which was newly established this year.

The Climate Response Fund is a fund established this year to support greenhouse gas reduction and is worth 2.4 trillion won. It is mainly used in four key areas: ▲ greenhouse gas reduction ▲ new promising low-carbon industrial ecosystem ▲ fair transition ▲ system and infrastructure establishment.

Lee Won Lee, 1st Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, held the 1st Climate Response Fund Fund Operation Deliberation Meeting at the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul on the 25th and discussed the direction of the operation of the Climate Response Fund this year. The meeting was attended by 4 government members, including the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and 5 private members.

Vice Minister Lee said, “This year is the first year of the implementation of the 2050 carbon neutrality goal, and it is an important year to establish reduction plans for each sector. We plan to develop the program.”

The size of the climate response fund this year is 2.4 trillion won. Specifically, a total of 900 billion won will be invested in greenhouse gas reduction projects, such as supporting the conversion of carbon reduction facilities. It will be used for the establishment of greenhouse gas management infrastructure (122 billion won), green remodeling of public buildings (224.5 billion won), and restoration of forest carbon sinks (7.9 billion won).

In addition, 600 billion won will be invested in nurturing promising companies in the low-carbon sector, nurturing carbon-neutral human resources and supporting green finance. In addition, a total of 200 billion won will be provided for fair conversion in vulnerable industries, employment, and regions, and a total of 600 billion won will be provided for carbon-neutral R&D support and core system establishment.

Through the Climate Response Fund, the government expects to have the effect of consolidating climate response projects that were individually carried out by various ministries into a single fund. It is expected that the coherence between policies will increase by increasing the linkage with the 2050 carbon-neutral policy.
