Yu Nanxiang, a 22-year-old girl from the Dai nationality, lives in Mengyang Town, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. At the age of 20, she followed a friend in the town and took a bus for nearly 8 hours to Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, more than 500 kilometers away from her hometown, to find a job related to tea.

In the past two years, because of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, she has not been able to go home for the New Year. This year will be the first Spring Festival in her life.

Her father went to work in Chengdu, Sichuan when he was young. In the late 1990s, in order to share the reunion moment with his family during the Chinese New Year, her father was crowded on the train on the way home from Chengdu to Xishuangbanna during the Spring Festival. Spend a few days and nights, then turn crowded cars and bump between roads and dirt roads for a few days and nights, and finally walk for a day to get home.

Yu Nanxiang told reporters that, like her father, she is also homesick, but she has been working abroad for two years. Due to the epidemic and the distance, she only returned home by bus three times until the China-Laos railway opened.

The China-Laos Railway is more than 1,000 kilometers long. It starts from Kunming, China in the north, and ends in Vientiane, Laos in the south. It consists of a Chinese section and a Laos section. The railway opened for operation on December 3, 2021. While Laos opened a new era of railway transportation, China’s border ethnic areas such as Pu’er and Xishuangbanna also ended the history of no railway access.

On the 17th, the China-Laos Railway ushered in its first Spring Festival. A total of 28.5 pairs of passenger cars were operated in the China section, an increase of 9 pairs compared with those before the Spring Festival. Zhang Ju, the head on duty of Kunming Railway Station, told reporters that the passenger flow of the China-Laos Railway on that day has increased compared with the previous one. In the later period of the Spring Festival, Kunming Railway Station will also increase the number of trips according to the passenger flow.

During the Spring Festival travel this year, China Railway Kunming Bureau Group will more accurately implement “one map a day” according to the changes in passenger flow and pre-sale of tickets on the China-Laos railway, and dynamically arrange the delivery of transportation capacity and the operation of passenger trains. The average daily transportation capacity of the China-Laos railway can reach 39,000. Above the seat, it will fully meet the dual needs of ensuring the travel of Spring Festival passengers and the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic.

Li Yaoyao, train conductor of the China-Laos Railway, said, “In addition to providing standardized services on the trains of the China-Laos Railway, in order to reflect differentiated services, we also provide passengers with five-color Chinese knots, hand-held pagers, luggage anti-lost devices, and warm notes. Posts, etc., I hope that the first show of the China-Laos Railway will be full of flavor.”

“After the opening of the China-Laos railway, it will only take 3 hours from Kunming to Xishuangbanna. There is also a Yexianggu station in Mengyang Town, my hometown.” Yu Nanxiang told reporters that since the opening of the China-Laos railway, it has been just over a month. She has taken the train back to her home three times. (Finish)
