Sydney: Firecracker Shimron Hetmyer has been left out of the West Indies squad for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup. Hetmyer was sacked by Cricket West Indies after he did not board the flight on time.
West Indies team members flew to Australia to participate in the Twenty20 World Cup on October 1. But Hetmyer asked West Indies cricket officials to extend the travel date due to family reasons. According to this, the authorities have booked special flight tickets for the star until October 3.
But Hetmeyer did not reach the flight on October 3. With this, Cricket West Indies unanimously decided to expel Hetmeier. Hetmyer was replaced by Shamar Brooks.
The West Indies team led by Nicholas Pooran will have to play the qualifying games to ensure a place in the Super Four of the World Cup. Windies are in Group B in the qualifying round. The other teams in Group B are Ireland, Scotland and Zimbabwe. The top two teams will progress to the Super 12.
