The Food and Drug Safety Minister has pulled all the cards to deal with fears of the cold medicine crisis… Drug price rise review

On the 7th, Food and Drug Safety Minister Oh Yu-kyung said, “The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has run out of cards that can be used by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.”

At the National Assembly’s Health and Welfare Committee examination on the same day, Director Oh responded to the criticism of Min-seok Kim, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who asked if there was a solution to the lack of supply of cold medicine.

Regarding the supply and demand of cold medicine, Director Oh said, “Among the antipyretic analgesics, there is a shortage of acetaminophen, a special ingredient, 650mg.”

Although the government eased the use of the ‘drug price indexation system’ in August, a system that lowers prices when drug use increases, Director Oh explained that this is a policy that is not drive an operational increase in production even if it prevents production cuts.

Director Oh said, “We are negotiating with the Ministry of Health and Welfare to adjust drug prices.”

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said in a report to the National Inspection on the same day that it was discussing with the industry and related ministries for administrative and financial support measures, such as raising drug prices, to encourage pharmaceutical companies to participate in the production of antipyretic analgesics and increase productivity.

Director Oh said, “Actaminophen 650mg for prescription is currently 51 won, but it will not be easy to produce a drug that costs 51 won because general use is 200 won per tablet.”
