The highest number of new infections in history What is different from the Chinese pandemic this spring

Widely spread throughout China … There is no extreme city siege

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 in China, where the highest number of new infections ever occurred, and its response is different in many ways from before.

According to the Chinese quarantine authorities on the 24th, the number of new infections in mainland China the day before was 29,754, the highest in three years since the first cases of Corona 19 in Wuhan, Hubei Province in December 2019.

It was 781 more than the previous high (28,973) recorded on April 13th.

The biggest feature of the recent resurgence of Corona 19 in China is that the spread area is wide.

On April 13, new infections in China were concentrated in Shanghai.

At that time, Shanghai’s infections (27,605) accounted for 95% of all infections in China.

At that time, Jilin (785 people), Guangxi (129 people), Guangdong (66 people), and Jiangsu (53 people) followed, but there were so few compared to Shanghai.

On the other hand, the number of new infections the previous day reached about 8,000 in Guangdong and Chongqing, Beijing, Sichuan, and Shaanxi also exceeded 1,000, and Xinjiang, Hebei, and Gansu also hosted about 900.

Corona 19 spread simultaneously throughout China, including the central, southern, western and eastern regions.

In April, medical staff from all over China were sent to Shanghai and Jilin to help, but that is not possible now.

An official from China’s National Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said in a briefing on the 22nd, “The spread of Corona 19 is widespread and this is the most serious and complex situation in three years.”

Although health experts have warned of the possibility of a ‘twindemic’ where Corona 19 and pandemic flu are common this winter, observations are emerging that the trend of the spread of Corona 19 may continue for now.

Changes are also appearing in the Chinese authorities’ response to COVID-19.

Although Beijing, Shenyang, Guangzhou, and Chongqing have recently taken blockade-like quarantine measures against areas where the outbreak of COVID-19 occurred, there is no measure as extreme as this spring, such as a complete blockade of the city.

In Shanghai, which closed the city on March 28, the number of new infections per day was in the 2,000 range.

Earlier, on March 11 and 24, Changchun in Jilin Province and Shenyang in Liaoning Province were blocked, respectively, with only a few dozen new infections per day.

As China’s ‘economic capital’ Shanghai and the auto industry center Changchun were blocked for about two months, the global supply chain was disrupted and the Chinese economy was also deeply shocked.

This change appeared in response to Corona 19 after the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, under the presidency of President Xi Jinping, announced on the 10th the “20 measures to optimize quarantine” emphasizing precise quarantine.

Previously, China’s State Council and Premier Li Keqiang had ordered to refrain from excessive quarantine, saying “we must not ruin the economy” several times, but local governments have adhered to high-intensity quarantine, such as locking down cities or central areas the city when Corona 19 happens.

It is confirmed that ‘precise quarantine’ is the intention of President Xi, the country’s main leader, and analysis suggests that local governments have begun to change as the central quarantine authorities emphasize the thorough implementation of quarantine optimization measures.
