Malappuram: Indian footballer Ashiq Kuruniyan pointed out the deplorable condition of the stadiums in Malappuram following the Chief Minister’s Facebook post that three football academies will be set up in the state as part of the government’s 100-day action plan. Aashiq pointed out the deplorable condition of Malappuram Kottapadi Stadium and Payyanad Football Stadium.

Ashik’s comment; “The Kottapadi Stadium and the Payyanad Stadium in Malappuram district, which were built at a cost of crores, are now locked up without any football matches, which is very sad as a football player, because the Kottapadi Stadium is also the ground where I grew up playing, and these two stadiums are now under the District Sports Council. The situation is deplorable. The ground is covered with jungle due to lack of proper maintenance work. It is very sad to see this as a football player because both of these are grounds that will be useful for future generations.

Many sports fans have come out in support of the comment. Two academies of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs will be set up in Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram and the academy of the State Sports Council will be set up in Ernakulam as part of the Government’s 100 Day Action Plan. Kannur and Ernakulam academies are for women only.
