The ‘iPhone 14’ satellite communication function implemented through a Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem

The satellite communication function introduced by Apple in the latest iPhone 14 series is implemented through Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 modem and custom hardware, foreign media reported on the 19th (local time).

As a result of the disassembly of the iPhone 14 Pro Max by global online repair company ‘Ifixit’, it has been confirmed that Apple’s new Snapdragon X65 5G modem and radio chip have been installed inside.

The Snapdragon X65 modem chip provides 5G connectivity to cellular networks and can also use ‘band n53’, a frequency band used by Globalstar satellites. Apple has reserved up to 85% of the available bandwidth on the GlobalStar satellite network to support new satellite communications capabilities.

“The iPhone 14 series includes custom radio frequency components and new software designed by Apple,” Apple said in a statement.

On the other hand, the satellite communication function of the iPhone 14 series can connect to the satellite and send emergency messages even in areas where Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is not possible.
