The Korea Sports Association held the 3rd Sports Hero Selection Committee (Chairman Seung-cheol Kim) on the 7th and selected the 4 finalists (Su-nyeong Kim, the late Kim Hong-bin, Park Hang-seo, and the late Yoo Sang-cheol) as the result of deliberation. (8th) said.
Captain Kim began his first expeditionary climb of Everest (8,848 m) in 1989, and lost ten fingers in distress while climbing the North American highest peak McKinley (6, 194 m) in 1991. The highest peak on seven continents, including Vinson Massif (4,897m) in Antarctica, was completed.
Also, from Gasherbroom II (8,35m) in 2006 to Broad Peak (8,047m) this year, I became the first person with a disability to climb 14 8,000-meter-level Himalayan peaks.
In July of this year, after climbing the third highest peak of the Karakoram Mountains, Broad Peak, in the northeastern part of Pakistani Kashmir, he fell from an altitude of 7,900 meters above sea level and disappeared after falling off a cliff during the rescue process.
The selection committee explained that Captain Hong-bin Kim, a representative mountaineer of Korea, highly appreciated the fact that he instilled hope and a spirit of constant challenge in the people by climbing the highest peaks on 7 continents in the world and the first to complete the 14th in the Himalayas for the disabled.
The Korean sports hero was selected by the selection committee based on the results of the evaluation of the performance of the evaluation team and the public support survey after selecting 4 final candidates after screening after receiving recommendations from sports organizations, reporters, and the general public.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at 3:30 pm on the 22nd at Olympic Hall Muse Live, Olympic Park, Seoul.
